The game

A new island every wipe, from desert in the south to arctic snow in the north. Build a base you can hold, raid your neighbours and fight for the loot at monuments, on the oil rigs and on the cargo ship.

The island

Every map wipe brings a new island: forest, rivers and lakes, roads and trails, islets off the coast. Desert with palms and oases in the south, then forest and tundra, then snow and icebergs in the north.

Monuments hold the best loot, radiation and other players, and keycards and fuses open their best rooms. Fill a quarry with low grade fuel and it digs stone, metal ore, sulfur or high quality metal.

Safe zones

The Outpost and the Fishing Villages. Hold a weapon out there and you are marked hostile, and the guards open fire. The Outpost has shops, a recycler, workbenches and a research table; the villages sell boats.

Events

  • Patrol helicopter

Every few hours it flies over the monuments and hunts players who carry guns. Bring it down and it leaves four burning crates, and its wreck gives high quality metal.

  • Cargo ship

It sails around the island for about an hour with ten scientists on board. Climb on: crates come up in three waves ten minutes apart, a locked crate in each.

  • Oil rigs

A small and a large rig out at sea, held by scientists. Hack the locked crate and a CH47 brings in heavy scientists to stop you.

  • Locked crate

A CH47 drops it at the Sphere Tank, the Satellite Dish or the Airfield. Hack it, then hold it for fifteen minutes.

  • Airdrop

A plane drops a crate on a parachute, and the map does not show where: watch the sky. A supply signal calls one to you.

Your base

Start with twig, then upgrade to wood, stone, sheet metal and armored. A tool cupboard stops others building near you and holds the materials that keep the base from decaying. Lock doors with a key or a code, put up high external walls, and set spikes, mines, shotgun traps, flame turrets and auto turrets.

Raids

An armored wall takes 8 C4 or 46 satchel charges, and a satchel can fail to go off. Rockets, explosive ammo and the grenade launcher work too. When your base is hit, everyone on its cupboard who is online gets an alert.

Weapons and gear

From the Eoka pistol and a bow to the L96, the M249 and a rocket launcher, with a crossbow, a grenade launcher and a flamethrower in between. Scopes up to 16x, holosights and silencers go on your gun. Wear road sign armour, heavy plate, a hazmat suit or night vision goggles.

Progress

Scrap builds workbenches 1, 2 and 3, opens their tech trees and pays for research: put an item on a research table to learn it. Recyclers at monuments break junk down into scrap and parts. Your blueprints stay with you through map wipes.

Getting around

Buy a Minicopter for 750 scrap or a 12-seat Scrap Transport Helicopter for 1,250 at the Outpost, and a rowboat or an RHIB at a Fishing Village. Rowboats also lie on the beaches. All of them run on low grade fuel.

Team and character

Team up with up to eight players: teammates show on your map and compass, and you can mark loot, danger and your base for them. Anyone near you hears your voice. Log off and you sleep where you stood, and anyone can kill and loot you. Choose a man or a woman, skin tone, hair and beard: your look is the same on every server.
